Holiday Cheer... it's all about the Edibles here...

If you could smell my house right now.....
Oh.  My.  Lordy.
If you could smell what i can smell, you'd probably propose to me. Even though you are already married.
It is the power of the Pickle.. and the Spices.. and the Sloes....
2011 is all about the Incredible Edibles!
Having re-discovered Milton tablets, Sterilising equipment has become a joy.
A nice big bowl with a few Milton tablets and you can sterilise the funnel, sieve, jars, spoons.
It fills me with a little more confidence when i know everything is bleached to within an inch of it's inert 'life'.
I've gone all Delia this year. I got her book at a Car Boot for a bargain. Very happy with my wee self.
And she is doing me proud thus far.
Pickled Pears, by rights, i should have done a bit earlier than this but Pah! i left it late.
I am so exciting about these with a Cheese Board and the Cold Meats. Yum.
Mainily pared pears and spices with Cider and White Wine Vinegar but i put a generous glug of Gin in too.
There was talk of late that, I might have begun listing 'DRINKING' in my list of "top 5 greatest things to do"
i swear it's not true - this recipe can take some Gin. It's all good.
The Sloes have been steeping in their sugar syrup and gin solution for many months now - not the recommended 12, granted. But are now drained and bottled, ready for the various occasions that are upcoming. I have already finished a bottle of my Damson and Apple Gin - now that is a heavenly concoction i should not be left alone with.
Let us gloss over the marathon of children's 'Magical Sandwiches' for parties, Cinnamon cookies and other such treats. It is like a Mother's obligation... except if you are my friend Mel, who put her name down for Ready Salted crisps for the Children's Party.... what is the matter with me? why didn't i do that?
There was a tricky moment with a cheese sandwich yesterday, when Lucy asked me:
"Why is the sandwich magical Kirsty?... because it has glitter on it?"
"yeesss Lucy (10 other children listening) that glitter is the magic dust that makes Rudolph fly on Christmas Eve"
"Will we fly on Christmas Eve too Kirsty?"
"eerrrmmmm..... yeeeesssss, you might....."
PLEASE KEEP LUCY SAFE on Chritsmas Eve. Tie her to the bed! There may be magic afoot!

Goodness only knows what will arrive in the Food Delivery on Monday Night?
I am hoping to make:
Leek & Blue Cheese Tartlets
Salted Pecan Fudge Squares
Waffles and Hot Choc Dip for Breakfast (ala Jamie Oliver - oh my!)
Slow Roasted Honied Figs
 - i am more of a support act to the main event over this gluttony fest.
I am happiest with this role.
And look at this wee gift from a friend!
"I'd love a Babycham" - cute (wait till i show you the glass!)
Friendship is one of my next thoughts. I have a great deal to say on the subject.
Anyway:
Pears - done
Sloe Gin - done
Gotta get a Wax in an hour OUCH! The Christmas Dinner Dance is this Saturday.
Can you believe i am going alone? We have a great table with a hilarious bunch of School Run Wino Chums and food lovers. It is with a deep breath and an "i'm a big girl attitude" that i can go the Christmas Dance like Cinderella and say "i'm not single, i am surrounded by people i love"
chat soon.
Whoooop! i'm on a high today!

Shop Updates...

The Gingham Button Pack now contains 8 colours as standard = 80 buttons. The BEST 8 colours in my opinion. Other button sellers are selling all the colours mixed, but these are my current favourites :) Also: 3 THREE *new* felt colours in the FuzzyFish shop (see side bar links>>>)
This is Very Boy Blue:
This is 70%Cocoa:

This is Mushroom: (weirdly the most 'non-colour' avialble but my favourite to use right now?!?)

All good stuff - it's nice to keep adding / changing / updating / refreshing things.

Craft happy my lovlies xxx

An Ordinary Day...

Some days are lovely, but quite like any other...It started to look good when BIGGERMummyFish and SisterFish popped over to share a pot of fresh coffee and freshly baked LemonChoc Biscotti (inspired by this lady)
The dog was outside enjoying the wamest Spring sunshine...

The beautiful child was outside enjoying the warmest Spring sunshine....

The beautiful child was outside enjoying the novelty of having Mummy's digital camera...
(we title the above frame "Dead Cow")

I might title this photo "Mad Cow" x

I love her photography skills!
And this pot of blooms was planted out for me as a birthday gift last week - it has just 'bloomed' and it brightens my garden no end.
Just an ordinary day, in the extra-ordinary life, of little ole me and my folks x

Spring Chickens

The ladies in my family are feeling the strain...
My Mum is 60 next month! My sister turns 31 this week and I am 34 in March.
We are all a bit tired..... in fact we are EXHAUSTED and we feel like we're 'no Spring chickens' anymore...
Being born in March means I am a Spring Baby! And it suits me 'oh so much'.
Today i walked the dog (and child) for miles.
I cleaned the car.
I cleaned the downstairs windows of my house.
LittleFish made some flowery cakes.
We planted some bulbs and pulled up some weeds.... It is Spring! and this is what Spring makes me feel like. I dislike the addition of an extra year to my age but i love the sense of warmth, colour, scent, beginnings, that all skip alongside the start of Spring x

New badges above. I made up a few packs last night as i have a few Spring Craft Fairs coming up soon.
Flowery Brooch below (as blogged a few weeks ago ) dressing like Spring! ( i draw the line at wearing yellow)

And the prettiest LittlestFish running around in her vest and leggings... i try to resist the urge to kiss her chubby little arms every 2 seconds.
She made these darling cakes (yum yum).... i hope my sister isn't reading this because we have saved one for her birthday on Friday x x x
Happy Spring my friends! Keep colourful, keep in touch x

Why i love Nigella x

My beloved 'Nigella' (Lawson - the TV personality and Recipe Book writer for the Un-initiated)
She gets a bad press by some but i want to tell you why i love her...
My Christmas Party - held yesterday - at my house, i sooo wish you all could have come. Nigella made hosting a small Christmas gathering SO much pleasure.

Mini Christmas pudding truffles, individually decorated by my sister, my daughter, my man and me. So much fun and they look gorgeous x a crafters dream cookery project. MMMmmm licking the chocolate bowl (even the dog got in on this action)

Peanut Butter mini-cupckaes x my younger Sister (BabyFish) has just returned from 12 Months travelling the world. What better way to catch up than spending the afternoon on cups of tea and making chocolates from Nigella's Christmas Book? It was pure JOY.

BabyFish fiddling with the mini-holly decoration on 48 individual puddings. I don't care if Nigella pouts at the camera or *eats cold left-overs during a nightine fridge raid* (or only does that for the camera)
Nigella doesn't make me feel inadequate or envious. She is a joy to watch and her books are a joy to cook and bake from. I love to feed my family and my friends and Nigella knows really that the 'event' and the people are far more important than the food.
Drinking, eating, talking, laughing, creating... these are things that i see Nigella promoting and these are the things that make me happy too.

Nigella's Christmas Chutney.... mmmmm x she maybe very Middle-class, she even be Upper-class, i don't really know. I just love her class-i-ness.
My friend MrsB really does get the bus or walk to her supermarket WITH 2 babies under 3 and she cooks and entertains Nigella with so much style! (Click HERE to see MrsB loving Nigella)

Dressing the table in OOOodddles of my Christmas crockery all thrifted and Sale found throughout the years.

SO, Merry Christmas!
Don't *hate* Nigella x love her for what she stands for...
Camp creativity, eating, taking life with a pinch of sugar, entertaining, eating, laughing, creating and generally putting in a little bit more effort than your local McDonalds could offer.

Cheers x
